I spent nearly two decades working on construction projects across Ontario and Alberta first in the field, then in the office managing bids.
And the thing that frustrated me most, year after year, was watching talented contractors lose jobs not because of their skill, but because of bad numbers.
Inaccurate takeoffs. Estimates built on gut feel. Bids put together at 2am the night before a deadline. Contractors who were genuinely the best choice for the job, losing to a competitor who simply submitted a tighter, more credible number.
